Image result for kids valuing sportOn September 8, 2016 we discussed the different values in sport in my American Sport in the 21st Century class We also talked about the American societal values  and the different sets of values. Values are a guide to behavior. If you have values that means that you have to make choices. Those choices will differ depending on the values that you have.

There are 3 sets of values:

  1. Personal
  2. Societal
  3. Organizational

Some of the values that can be learned are Character Building, Competition & Winning, Health & Fitness, Nationalism, Work Ethic, Teamwork, and Respect.

American Societal Values:
  • Achievement and Success
  • Materialism
  • Moral Orientation
  • Individualism
  • Humanitarianism
  • Progress
  • Equality
  • Freedom
  • Conformity
  • Nathioalism

In Steve Silvermans article The Values That Can Be Learned by Playing Sports which was published on January 12, 2016 discusses different examples of values that can be learned while playing in sports. For example overcoming adversity is on of their values. It then talks about how a player on a baseball team strikes out and that could make them want to quit. It is important for the athlete to learnt that all players experience something negative at some point in their athletic career. It is important for them to bounce back and come back in the next at bat or the next play depending on the sport and give it your all. I believe that sports is a great way to learn all the different values that sports can provide. To read more follow the link: Values in Sport
